Personal Storytelling
Tell the Story You Want to Live
Once Upon A Time...
Those are the four most magical words in the English language. Far more than mere words, they are a key to the doors of imagination and understanding, allowing us to comprehend and conquer the world around us. Those words instantly conjure expectations of adventure and excitement, and whatever we were doing before we heard those words becomes less interesting than the story we know we’re about to hear.
Stories are central to the human experience. Our capacity for storytelling is one of the main traits separating us from other creatures. All living beings communicate, but most communication in the plant and animal kingdoms is focused on meeting utilitarian needs related to status, territory, mating, or safety. Humans communicate about those things too, but we use our words to convey so much more.
Humans use language and the art of storytelling to conceptualize our aspirations, connect with others, and preserve our culture. Our stories inform, explain, warn, guide, persuade, inspire, document, and moralize. Yet few people understand how powerful personal storytelling skills can be.
How you tell your story matters. We are constantly communicating about our values and vulnerabilities. And whether we realize it or not, we are who we say we are. That is why it is so important to be aware of the stories we tell about ourselves.

I invite you to explore the power of personal storytelling, learn how to hone your narrative skills, and use that knowledge to transform your life.
